Simple Summer Crafts

Note: crafts require adult assistance 

Craft #1 : Crab Handprints 

Materials: red paint, blue and tan construction paper, cotton balls, elmer’s glue, black sharpie, 2 googly eyes, paintbrush 

HOW: cut out a small portion of tan construction paper to look like the sand and glue it onto the blue paper, (optional to use crushed up cheerios or sand) Separate the cotton and glue it onto the blue background to look like clouds. (optional) Paint both of your child’s hands red and press together with the thumbs up to make the crab. Glue the goggly eyes at the top of the thumbs. Draw a smiley face under the eyes. Ta-da!

Model: right hand, left hand, cold, red, paintbrush, put on, glue, squeeze, spread, sky, pull, clouds, sand, beach, summer, pinch, crab, sea animal, cut, help, all done

Craft #2: Watermelon Slice 

Materials: red or pink construction paper, Elmer’s glue, black sharpie or black construction paper, green construction paper, white paper 

HOW: Print an outline of a watermelon slice (free on Teachers Pay Teachers) or draw an outline of a watermelon slice using the sharpie onto the white paper. Have your child help you rip the construction paper into little pieces. Glue the paper until the paper is covered and it resembles a watermelon slice. Add small black dots or draw them on to represent the seeds. Optional to add goggly eyes and a smile.

Model: seeds, pink, red, eat, juice, yummy, watermelon, fruit, food, sweet, glue, help, rip, tear, put on, small, big, more, all done

Craft #3: Stress Balls 

Materials: balloons, sand/rice/flour, funnel, scissors, Sharpie 

HOW: stretch the balloon by blowing it up and releasing it or use your hands, use the funnel to pour the filling of choice into the balloon until the balloon is full, remove the funnel and squeeze or any air, tie the balloon tightly and cut off any excess rubber, decorate with sharpie
