Bubble Blowing in Myofunctional Therapy

Bubble blowing isn’t just a favorite childhood activity but it’s also a fantastic tool in orofacial myofunctional therapy! This playful exercise helps children practice essential oral motor skills like controlled airflow, lip rounding, and jaw stability.

To start, we demonstrate airflow by having the child blow on a tissue, helping them understand how air moves outward from the mouth. Next, we guide them to blow bubbles, encouraging rounded lips and a steady stream of air. If needed, gentle jaw support can be provided to ensure proper positioning.

The goal of bubble blowing is body awareness. Bubble blowing builds the foundational skills needed for proper oral rest posture, swallowing, and even speech sound production. Best of all, it’s fun and engaging, making therapy feel more like play!
